5 Cloth Diapering Products I Cannot Live Without...

#1 bumGenius One Size Cloth Diapers - I am in LOVE with this diaper! I have finally found a diaper that can stand up to my super soaker, night nursing son! The diaper comes with 2 inserts so I use the newborn insert as a doubler. I am always shocked at how heavy the diaper is in the morning so I did a little experiment. I weighed the diaper before I put it on my son before bed, it was 3oz., and then I weighed it again in the morning and it was 1lb 2oz!! For one, I am shocked at how much Jackson pees at night...17 oz!! and second I can't believe the diaper held it all in without a leak!

#2 Wahmies Fun Print Wet Bags I never leave home without my Wahmies Wetbag!! I have had mine for 2 years and has held up great even with bi-weekly washings. I have 2 that I alternate while the other is in the wash. They come in so many different prints to suit many tastes.

#3 Sheepish Grins Creamy Lanolin Spray- Love wool, hate lanolizing. This Creamy Lanolin Spray by Sheepish Grins make is super easy! Just spray, pat, and let dry. Plus it the lavender smells fantastic! Sheepish Grins has a fabulous line of wool care products that I am in love with!

#4 Unbleached Cotton Prefolds - I know, I am always ranting and raving about prefolds but they really are great! They have so many uses. They can be used as pocket diaper inserts, burp rags, noses, cleaning, etc...I always have one in my purse during allergy season.

#5 Cloth Wipes - Can't cloth diaper without cloth wipes! It's actually easier to use cloth wipes with your cloth diapers. Just toss the wipes in with your dirty diapers, no separate trip to the garbage can. The best part is you save about $800 using cloth instead of disposable wipes. Happy Heiny makes a great hemp wipe that folds in half to fit perfectly in wipe warmers. Toss them in a Mini Wahmies Wet Bag for your diaper bag and traveling.

Hemp is better for the environment because it does not deplete the soil or require pesticides, unlike cotton. And it is super absorbent! East to use, just fold the insert to the size you like and stuff into your Wahmies One Size.

The Wahmies One Size Diaper in Sleepy Sheep is also back in stock.

The ever popular Quick Trip Wet Bags are back an in fabulous disco dots! Wet bag and changing pad in one. Perfect to just grab and go when you don't feel like lugging around a diaper bag.

Shipping and Move Update

We moved this weekend and no I am working as fast as I can to process the orders which cam e in during the move. Orders are being shipped in the order in which they were received. I hope to be caught up and be back to 24 hour shipping by Friday. Thank you all for your patience! It has been quite a transition. All I can say is that I never want to move AGAIN! I am still trying to get the office set up so that everything can run smoothly. And on a high note, my mother bought me the BEST housewarming gift a girl could want...a brand new washer and dryer!!! They are not only beautiful but they get the diapers (and all the rest of the laundry) super clean!! And I can fit twice as much as I could in my last washer. LOVE them, thanks mom :)

Wahmies Wonder Shopper in DISCO DOTS

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge germaphobe! When my husband and I go grocery shopping he has to push the cart, I just can't do it! I picture the millions of germs and bacteria crawling all over it. I love that now more and more stores are offering sanitizing wipes at the door to wipe down the carts. Unfortunately, I am trying to give up my beloved clorox wipes (and having major withdraws, they are the only "bad" product in my home). Thank goodness for the cart cover! Wahmies make a fabulous cart cover called the Wonder Shopper. It is handmade here in the US and is great quality, unlike those you may fine at major baby retailers. The BEST thing is that they come in DISCO DOTS!! I have a limited quantity in Pink on Brown Disco Dots and Blue on Brown Disco dots. They are so cute!! With the dreaded flu season upon us, I want to protect my baby and my germaphobe self.

Cloth Diapers Featured in Mothering Magazine

The new issue of Mothering Magazine arrived in my mailbox today. I was so excited when I saw it featured the "Cloth Diaper Comeback". I quickly opened the magazine and jumped to the cloth diaper section. Jackson was just as excited as I in the mag except his intention was to devour it. The cloth diaper section is full of great information for both the novice and veteran cd user alike. I am thrilled to see that cloth is finally making it's way back into mainstream!

Mothering featured a few articles on cloth diapering: "Dumping Disposable Diapers," by Lindsay Evans (page 46), outlines how to make a smooth transition to cloth (and why the environment will thank you). Meanwhile, Elizabeth Gawlik's "The ABCs of Going Cloth" (page 52) gives you the skinny on the latest diaper styles and how to take care of them—these are definitely not your mother's diapers! You'll be amazed at how relatively easy these attractive varieties make padding your baby's bum. In addition, a special "Strokes of Genius" section (page 90) features products with the cloth-diapering parent in mind.

Cloth diapering products featured in the magazine are:
I am working on getting a pdf copy on the site to share with everyone. I haven't mastered the ftp thing yet lol

Your Grandmother Should Know

Many of us seek cloth diapering support from our peers, from other parents of young children. We reinvent cloth diapers as we start over with every new parent and every baby. Even in the passing era of throwaway diapers, the knowledge of cloth diapers was not lost. There have been women among us all along who know about cloth diapers. Your grandmother should know.
We can give depth and history to our own use of cloth diapers by learning about the solutions others found. Granted, the cloth diapers we use on our children in 2006 are seldom like those our mothers or grandmothers used because our diapers are evolving in different economic and environmental realities. We have a greater variety of materials available. We have the collective wisdom of our peers to draw on through the internet. And, we have a much more detailed knowledge of the impact of our diapering choices on environment, economy, and health.
Let's expand that collective wisdom to the history within memory in our own families and neighborhoods. Let's learn from our grandmothers as we create an oral history of cloth diapers, then let’s spread it around.
Your grandmother should know cloth diapers. Go ask her.
